Dr. (Prof.) R.N. Makroo, MD (Pathology)PGI Chandigarh, Post Graduate Diploma in Blood Transfusion & Immuno-hematology PGI Chandigarh and Fellowship in Transfusion Medicine (United Kingdom). He is a three-time recipient of the National Award for Blood Transfusion Services in India and a centurion blood donor too.

Prof. Makroo has a rich professional background and has served in various roles including Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Immuno-hematology and Blood Transfusion at the Sher E Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar Kashmir. He has also served in the World Health Organization as a National Consultant in Transfusion Medicine. In his last role, he was the Director Professor at the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Molecular Biology & Transplant Immunology at prestigious Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi.

He was Secretary General Indian Society of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion & Immunohematology ( ISBTI) for 12 years. He was the President of the Indian Society of Transfusion Medicine (2016 to 2023) and is a member of esteemed professional organizations like the Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies (AABB) and the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT).

Prof. Makroo is also a Qualified Assessor for National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH) Certification for Blood Banks. He is a Member of the National Blood Transfusion Council & technical resource group Transfusion Medicine GOI. He has served as a Temporary Advisor to WHO for Quality Assurance Training in Blood Transfusion services for South East Asia.

Prof. Makroo is a prolific author with publications that include technical manuals, development strategies in blood banks, Compendium of Transfusion Medicine, Principles & Practice of Transfusion Medicine , chapters on various textbooks and  more than 150 research papers in National & International journals. His dedication, vision & commitment to advancing the field of Transfusion Medicine makes him a revered speaker at both national & international conferences.
